Emergency Management Training & Education Preparedness Volunteers About NSEMO

Emergency Management Overview

Emergency Management: The process by which a community prepares for emergencies and disasters, responds to them, recovers from them, rebuilds, and mitigates their future effects.

The goal of emergency management is to protect lives, property, and the environment - before, during and after disaster strikes. This is done with preparedness, training and mitigation programs and through prompt and effective municipal response and recovery efforts utilizing the expertise and resources of federal, provincial, local agencies and voluntary relief organizations.

On the North Shore, NSEMO works with the three North Shore municipalities and many community partners to respond in a comprehensive and coordinated way to any emergency event through the four phases of emergency management:

  • Mitigation

  • Preparedness

  • Response

  • Recovery
